Making a Bid

Before you bid to host a conference you should consider the following issues:

  • Are your branch and its projects running smoothly, and are there enough people involved with Medsin or willing to get involved to run the conference?

  • You will need 2 or 3 people to be co-ordinators who arrange and run meetings, follow up progress etc. It’s good to share jobs and responsibilities as much as possible, but ultimately a large share of the work will probably fall on this 2 or 3. Ideally these people should not be those running local Medsin projects or the branch president and secretary, as there is a risk that your local branch activities will suffer.

  • You need to make sure that these core group of co-ordinators are really willing to sacrifice the majority of a year in organising the conference. We can not emphasise enough that there is A LOT of work involved in running a conference.

What now

Bids for next year's conferences take place during the voting session at this year's relevant conference. So voting for next year's National Conference takes place at this year's National conference and for next year's Global Health conference at this year's global health conference.

Bids to host either the national conference or the global health conference should be sent to the Medsin Secretary at least 3 weeks before the voting session.

Bids should include:

  • the proposed theme

  • budget

  • venue

  • cost of travel to the venue

  • maximum number of delegates

  • candidature form signed by your current branch president

At the voting session candidates should give a 5 minute presentation and be prepared to answer questions for 10 minutes about their proposal and presentation.
