Branding and Publicity

Branding

It is really useful to brand the conference as best you can. This helps people identify with it from an early stage which aids publicity, funding, getting speakers...everything!

To be successful with your branding try and develop a simple logo that is eye catching. This should then be used on as much publicity as you can.

If you need help with this, don't hesitate to contact the Medsin Publicity Director.

Publicity

Most conferences use a mixture of different techniques to publicise their conference.

How much you prioritise publicity depends on how difficult you think it is going to be to attract people to the conference. As a general rule, the harder it is to get to your University town, the more publicity you need.

You might think of using these different forms of publicity:

  • Posters sent out to all the medsin branches and put up around your university

  • A video presentation that can be played in lectures

  • The medsin newsletter

  • Emails to all the branch presidents to forward on to their members

  • Other conferences e.g. regional conferences - its great to have a presence at the conference that comes before yours.

  • Advertisements in the student BMJ or on the Lancet Student website.

  • The Medsin website

The Actual Event

  • Consider inviting local media to the conference, but please liaise with the national committee before doing so. They may be able to advise regarding appropriate press contacts.
