Branch Committee Roles

Local branches have varying structures and committee roles. Below is a list of the 'typical' committee positions within a branch and the suggested roles and responsibilities of each position. Every committee should elect a President, Secretary and Treasurer as a minimum.

Branch President(s)

  • Oversee all areas of the running and coordination of the Medsin branch
  • Act as chair of all the meetings of the branch
  • Act as the branch's representative to all external bodies and during Medsin national events

Vice President

  • Supports the president in their role
  • Ideally, the vice president should chair a local activities board

Secretary

  • Help to write agendas for branch meetings
  • Take minutes at meetings and being responsible for circulating these following the meeting
  • Assist in preparation of powerpoint presentations for Medsin Explained events
  • Act as a point of contact for interested externals and general enquires
  • Keep records of olds discusions & minutes, publicity & explanation documents and member's details, etc
  • Send out emails and publicity
  • Maintain up to date records of the branch's membership including contact details for all the members
  • Forward relevant information about local, national & international events to local members
  • Produce a local monthly newsletter

Treasurer

  • Be responsible for all of the branch's money
  • Be a signatory for the branch's budget
  • Collect membership fees, event fees and pay all bills
  • Keep a record of all financial transactions in an appropriate, understandable manner
  • Write an annual financial report
  • Keep the branch committee informed of their financial situation.

Publicity Officer

  • Works on innovative ways to attract new members
  • Increases Medsin's profile locally - produces leaflets, posters, etc.

Webmaster

  • Maintains the branch's website
  • Updates the branch's page on the Medsin national website

Social Secretary/Event Coordinator

  • Organises fundraisers/parties/information evenings
  • Books meeting rooms and social venues
  • Makes tickets and posters

Training Director

  • Organises local training events for branch members, projects and campaigns
  • Helps to train at national events
  • Helps to facilitate meetings

Campaigns Director

  • Liaises with the national campaigns coordinators
  • Coordinates campaigns locally - whether it be awareness raising events, collecting signatures for a petition, organising campaign actions or fundraising
