Global Health Advocacy Project (GhAP)

Defend Primary Healthcare

For the last 18 months, all the efforts of the Global Health Advocacy Project have been focussed on the Defend Primary Healthcare Campaign. Access to primary healthcare for a large group of vulnerable UK residents is under threat. Please visit the campaign website to help. We recently released a report on this issue which received some media interest.

About Us

We believe that health is political and that long lasting solutions to health inequalities will require political change. The project is concerned with undertaking, encouraging and facilitating campaigning by Medsin members on the issues that they feel strongly about. We work with the other Medsin campaigns. We also work closely with the Global Health Education Project to raise awareness about the broader determinants of health. You can read more about our aims and objectives.

We had our first meeting in Leeds in October 2005. We were adopted as a Medsin project in April 2006. Read more about the history of GhAP and the campaigns.

Would you like tips on how to campaign? We have produced a few guides to visiting your MP, and so on.

What makes us sick

We used to produce a biannual magazine about the politics of health. It was called 'What Makes Us Sick'. You can read these magazines, as well as articles written by friends of GhAP and the Global Health Education Project here.

We also used to put out summaries of past and present global health news from around the world. Sadly, we have not had the time to do this recently, but you can read old news bulletins here.
