Policy Statements

A policy statement can be submitted by any Medsin voting member - projects, campaigns and branches. If you would like to submit one please contact the relevant coordinator. They are voted on at Medsin General Assemblies - the last one took place in October and full details can be found here. The next one is due to take place at the end of April, 2007.

Policy statements are statements that Medsin members believe. They can be used to advocate for the right to health by publicity in the media or being included in lobbying of government.

2009/2010

Medsin submitted a policy response to the European Union Consultation on the Role of the EU in Global Health.

You can download the submission here

Two policy statements were passed at the Medsin Autumn Weekend in September 2009:

Policy Statement on Water and Sanitation:

Medsin believes a lack of access to clean and effective water and sanitation to be an abuse of the right to the highest attainable standard of health. Limited access to water or sanitation prevents sustainable development in health, education and people’s livelihoods. Furthermore, this crisis affects most of all upon the poorest communities around the world.

Medsin supports a global framework for action by governments, donors and organisations in which water and sanitation is afforded the priority it requires and deserves.

Policy Statement on NHS:

Medsin SUPPORTS the National Health Service (NHS) as a comprehensive, high quality healthcare system.

We OPPOSE the process by which free market principles, such as competition and deregulation, are introduced to state owned organisations. of the NHS and strongly BELIEVE in an NHS free at the point of use - providing for all, keeping the interest of its stakeholders first and foremost; the public.

We SUPPORT the aims and founding principles of the NHS as patients including the universality of access to healthcare regardless of citizenship, as future clinicians and as interested stakeholders.

2007/2008
