Autumn General Assembly, Leicester, 26th-27th September

Believe it or not, it is almost that time again.....time for the Autumn General Assembly (AGA)!

The National Committee 2007-08 will soon be stepping down and the brand new National Committee 2008-09 will be stepping up. The new committee have already been working away to plan the AGA 2008 and here's some details to jot into your diary.

Location: Leicester When?: Sat 27th - Sun 28th September What?: There will be a video linked conference with Mozambique from 8-10pm on the Friday night. The AGA starts at 8.45am on Saturday and finished 5pm on Sunday. As always, there will be training, voting on bylaw changes, policy statements and guidance statements, mini-meetings, branch presidents meeting, activities board meeting, some campaigns planning, networking and much, much more.....not forgetting the Saturday night social!

Cost: ₤7.00 Who: The more, the merrier! It's really important for branch presidents, project and campaigns coordinators to come, and please bring others with you.

'SCREW THAT TABOO' - Sexpression National Conference 2008

This year the infamous Sexpression conference is being held in Newcastle on the 18th and 19th of October in Newcastle Upon Tyne. The theme is 'Screw That Taboo' and it promises to be an exciting, fun and inspiring weekend of workshops, speakers and sharing ideas. It is always a popular weekend with over 120 delegates last year from the UK and Europe. We would love to see you all there, whether you are a Sexpression/Medsex/Shag etc member, keen to join/set up a branch or are just interested in the field of sexual health.

Registration closes on the 22nd September. If you do not register you will NOT have place. Places are limited so groups can take up to 10 people only - NB: if groups wish to bring more then any spare places will be given to those who request them with priority to those who let us know first.

If you wish to run for national 2008-2009 then you need to send a 250 word motivation statement to us by the 15th September. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to get in touch & looking forward to seeing you all there,

Application opens for Medsin Activities Fund

The first of this year's "Activities Fund" is now open for applicants. Medsin projects and campaigns are invited to apply for up to £250 (min £25). Application is through your national project or campaign representative, not your local branch. The top three campaigns and top three project applications recieved will be allocated funding.

Submissions must be in two weeks before the AGA: 12th September.

3 further £250 funds will be opened, around about October, March and May.

Funding for transport, socials, food, drink or conferences is not applicable. And please note that you may not recieve the full funding that you apply for.

There will be a poster presentation fair at the AGA and we want as many branches, campaigns and projects to have the opportunity to show the rest of the network their sucesses.

Student Action for Refugees recruiting a new intern

STAR (Student Action for Refugees) is recruiting an intern to join our national support office to lead in the development and delivery of our new national campaign 'Let Them Work'. This will involve engaging students with the issues of 'Let Them Work' by presenting the campaign at STAR Conference '08 and organising a national day of action in the spring term.   This is an exciting opportunity for a self-starter wanting experience of working in the charity, youth or campaigning sector.   Out of pocket travel and lunch expenses incurred whilst volunteering will be reimbursed.   To find out more [visit] (www.star-network.org.uk/volunteering) or call Russell on 020 8980 7036. Does your branch want to run a book drive? Do you have Unwanted textbooks? Better World Books open a UK warehouse for donations

Better World Books are partners with the American Medical Students Association. They sell 2nd handbooks and with the money they fund literacy programmes around the world. They have just recently opened a warehouse outside Edinburgh and are for Medsin-UK branches to contact them if they want to organise a book drive.

CoE-EU Partnership: Training course Conflict Resolution and Human Rights Education

Conflict Resolution and Human Rights Education for Enhancing Intercultural Dialogue with Young People . This is a Euro-Mediterranean training course for multipliers active in human rights education and conflict resolution in the Euro-Mediterranean cooperation context. It will be held from 19 to 26 October 2008 at the European Youth Centre Budapest.   The course is organised in the framework of the Partnership on Youth between the Council of Europe and the European Commission and in co-operation with the Anna Lindh Euro-Med Foundation for the Dialogue between Cultures. The working languages of the training course will be English and French.   The application form for applying for the training course should be filled in on-line , available at http://coe.opencontent.it . International Development Conference, Newcastle University,

Saturday 1st November 9.00 - 5.30.

A day of workshops, open lectures and debates focusing on conflict and international development. Speakers will include NGO representatives from Oxfam, Traidcraft, VSO, and Cageprisoners as well as experts in economics, politics and technology. IDCs are courses into which development professionals distil the crucial issues people should be aware of to be a global citizen and, especially, before participating in development interventions themselves. Students from all subjects are welcome, particularly students from those departments that do not typically address development issues (e.g. Engineers, NatSci's, Medics, Mathmo's, Compsci's...)

Registration is ₤8.00, which includes lunch, workshops, discussion groups, debates and the chance to hear some fantastic key note speakers. Cost also includes an absolutely epic social on Saturday evening with live music and dancing from around the world.

Child Family Health International Scholarship for IFMSA members

CFHI Spring 2009 Scholarships- Now Accepting Applications

Child Family Health International www.cfhi.org is a 16 year old nonprofit organization that provides global education opportunities for students of the health sciences. Students participate in 4 or 8 week rotations with physicians in developing countries in underserved communities. To date, CFHI has sent over 4,500+ students on its programs to 17 sites throughout Bolivia, Ecuador, India, Mexico, Nicaragua and South Africa. CFHI Spring 2009 Scholarships are used to fund February- May 2009 global education programs. Deadline for completed CFHI Spring 2009 Scholarship applications is NOVEMBER 15, 2008. For more information on our scholarships please visit CFHI’s scholarship page or email alumni@cfhi.org.

19th European IPPNW student conference, Amsterdam, November 27th - November 30th

Resilience Project, European Student Meeting, Strasburg, 27-28th September

What? Discuss the project proposal to study post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Why? The first goal of the meeting is to enhance learning and training about post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The second goal of the meeting will be to determine what kind of support would be useful coming from European IPPNW Students
