"The UK has demonstrated strong leadership in calling for HIV treatment for all by 2010. However, people continue to be deported to countries where access to HIV treatment is difficult. This contradiction must be addressed. People living with HIV should not be deported until HIV treatment is more widely available." Rhon Reynolds, African HIV Policy Network

Elsevier to withdraw from hosting Arms Fairs
Crispin Davies wrote that customers and authors in the medical and science markets have concerns about the involvement of Reed Elsevier in arms fairs. He continued to state that their genuine concerns must be paramount.
This follows a couple of months of fierce campaigning about the issue that has seen Medsin and members write a letter to The Lancet, start an Arms Campaign, attend the Reed Elsevier AGM, be part of a submission of a motion to the BMA medical students conference, sign petitions and write letters.
The National Committee would like to say a big thanks to all of you for getting involved. This is truly a campaign success to be proud of.
The future of Medsin's campaigning is great, and we hope that this success will encourage more members to get involved.
Want to be on the CPRiS National Committee next year?
We are currently looking for people who would be interested in being on the CPRiS National Committee next year! There are a number of positions available, encompassing many roles, which would suit all types! If you would be interested in getting involved then I would be delighted to hear from you - so please email Julia. For more information about CPRiS please click here.
Remember that currently only ~2% of people survive a cardiac arrest in the community - help to increase the survival rate!
Interested in being Medsin's London coordinator?
Please contact Stephy and she will tell you all about it. There are lots of great events for next year, and it is a wonderful experience. The new London Campaigning group is a fab opportunity to increase links between London branches, and we have SOAS and LSHTM now to work with. The coordinator will be appointed in September, but if you're interested then get in touch with Stephy to find out more!
Overriding Trident - Medical students cycle against nuclear weapons
From September 28th-30th of 2007, a group of medical students and young doctors will cycle through the English countryside from Dover to London in order to protest against the planned Renewal of the British Nuclear Weapons Program.
On their way, they will meet with mayors, town councils and media representatives, stage public events and distribute information about the effects of Trident Renewal on public health. They will also collect signatures to pass on to the Members of Parliament which they will meet at the end of their trip in London. Because the aim is to get the British parliament to override its decision on Trident Renewal, the tour will be called the Overriding Trident Tour.
For more information about the Overriding Trident Tour, please visit the website or contact the organiser, Dr. Alex Rosen
