In poor countries people are being forced to pay for private care when they simply can't afford it. Email or write to Douglas Alexander, UK Secretary of State for International Development, and tell him that the UK government must lead the way by championing free public health care for poor countries.

A simple action that will take 2 minutes!

Marrow Petition

You may have heard of Adrian Sudbury, a journalist who is the first person to ever be diagnosed with two tyrpes of leukaemia. He has met with Gordon Brown and convinced Alan Johnson and Ed Balls, the Health Secretary and the Education Secretary, that education of young people about blood and bone marrow donation is essential. The government has agreed that a talk will be rolled out to all 14-15 year olds about the importance of donation. But Adrian, like many of us, thinks that another talk to 6th form students would be more helpful as they are then able to make an informed decision about whether they want to donate blood, or organs. He has a petition on the Downing Street website, if you agree please sign. Here is the address:

[G8 2008: we need Action Now!](http://www.oxfam.org.uk/actionnow)
---------------------------

Once a year, the leaders of the world’s eight most rich and powerful countries – the G8 – come together to talk about global poverty.

This July, the G8 will meet in Japan, and they will once again have it in their power to make a huge difference to the lives of the world’s poorest people.
...not wishful thinking

The first day of the meeting falls during a Japanese festival where people tie written wishes to bamboo trees.

Join people across the globe by sending your wish and demanding Action Now on aid, health and climate change.

This action takes less than 2 minutes, and can be found [here](www.oxfam.org.uk/actionnow).

Cyclone Nargis

It has been almost 2 weeks since Cyclone Nargis hit Burma. Large areas of Burma have been left devastated and it is thought that up to 1 million people could be homeless and at least 100,000 could be dead as a result of the Cyclone.

Most people have still not received any aid because of the restrictions by the junta regime, and every day of delay is likely to cost thousands of live.

Please [click here](/burma) to find out how you can donate to help the victims of the Cyclone and take action now!
