Student leaders from around the UK arrived this week atthe 59th General Assembly of the International Federation of Medical Student Associations (IFMSA) in Montreal, Canada to represent UK students and global health policies.

The conference shall bring together over 600 enthusiastic students, wishing to share solutions to a range of public health and healthcare problems facing students and healthcare systems in countries around the world.

Elly Pilavachi, incoming National Coordinator for Medsin-UK and Brighton and Sussex Medical Student, gave the following roundup of the student charity’s goals:

“Engaging with student colleagues from around the world is a fantastic opportunity to teach others where we have succeeded, and bring fresh innovation to our own community and advocacy activities in the UK. We hope to see new commitment from our friends on issues ranging from climate change, the influence of the pharmaceutical industry on medical education, through to ensuring students around the world are supported in demanding long-lasting change in governmental policy that can bring improvements to the lives of our patients and communities around the world.”

The delegation goes to Canada with a number of interests and aims to campaign on including climate change and access to medicines in low-income countries. They plans to use new technologies to update UK members and students, available at www.medsin.org/medsinatifmsa.
