Medsin National Conference hits the headlines!
Written by Jonny Currie, 10 months ago | Permalink | Branch: Nottingham

Our recent Medsin National Conference 2009 in Nottingham was covered by both the Nottingham Evening Post and thelancetstudent.com student global health journal!
This is one of the few but important times we've gained press coverage (we're getting better at this!) - in fact despite the attention and prominence given to national newspapers, local print is a well-established way of gaining the attention of local politicians and people, who on aggregate (i.e. if you sum up all the local newspapers in the country) are far more likely to read their local paper than any national broadsheet or tabloid.
Well done to everyone involved (particularly Cecilia Okusi, Medsin Campaigns Media Coordinator, Yize Wan and all the Medsinners from Nottingham who helped out!) and here's to further successes in our media and publicity :)
Jonny & Erica Medsin-UK President & Campaigns-Director
Nottingham Evening Post
"A NATIONAL conference on Vulnerability in Health will be held in Nottingham."
"Medsin-Nottingham, the local branch of a national network of students with an interest in health, will host well-renowned speakers in their field and over 400 student delegates from across the UK."

"Joy Troko, a medical student from Nottingham will be there to question the parliamentary candidates on asylum seeker issues."
"She said: "I live in Radford, where most Nottingham asylum seekers are located. Later on as a health professional, I will identify them by their lack of National Insurance number or rejected appeal status."
"This is a form of institutional discrimination. Something of this calibre should be unacceptable given our government's belief that the UK is a standard of 'social equality', it is not. I am looking forward to the parliamentary candidates' responses."

"Following a successful round of talks, workshops, inspirational opportunities and campaigning most notably by Erica Pool (former TLS Intern and Medsin-UK Campaigns Director),3 Medsin enthusiasts Dare Oladokun, Anand Bhopal and Nicholas Swetenham and Erica herself write for us today on what the conference meant to them, and what messages they took home for their friends and colleagues."
