Lobby YOUR medical school to join the fight against climate change

This month is dedicated to Healthy Planet – mobilising students and the health profession to fight climate change (www.medsin.org/campaigns/healthyplanet).

Climate change is and will increasingly be one of the biggest threats to global health. Governments are finally beginning discussion of how to respond to this global health threat and need pressure from within to take the action necessary.

The Climate and Health Council (www.climateandhealth.org) is an international organisation and the leading group in mobilising the health profession against climate change. We want YOU to lobby your medical school and encourage your peers to sign their declaration of concern on global heath and the environment.

You'll find at the top of this email an action pack pack describing the action in more detail and the LETTER you can send to your Medical School Dean. Print it off as many times as you need, send it multiple times from your friends, your medical school committee, approach your medical societies to sign it and send it. The more pressure the better!

So,

  1. Check out the action pack for information about climate change, Healthy Planet and the Climate and Health Declaration

  2. Print off the letter above and send it to your medical school dean from your BRANCH, your FRIENDS and your medical society

  3. Sign the declaration yourself at http://www.climateandhealth.org/getinvolved/pledge/ and distribute it to your friends, colleagues in the UK and abroad

Let's make sure the 'health voice' is heard in the lead up to the UN Copenhagen conference in Dec 2009 and a strong commitment is made to reduce carbon emissions.

Any questions or comments, do email campaigns@medsin.org and we'll be happy to help.
