At the end of September, Prime Minister Gordon Brown will face the first big test of his commitment to keeping the promises made on HIV and AIDS. He can support the goal of "Universal Access to HIV Treatment, Prevention, Care and Support by 2010" by fully funding the Global Fund to fight AIDS, TB and Malaria. The Global Fund has saved almost 2 million lives in the last few years, but it has been constantly underfunded and needs more money to continue its work. G8 countries agreed to treble the size of the Fund by 2010, and now we need to make sure they keep their promises. In Brown's own words, "the sad fact is that the Global Fund... which was to be a fund of $20 billion, is financed only to the tune of about $2.7 billion... and we will have to do better in future years. " With less than a month until the Global Fund Replenishment Conference (25th-27th September), we really need as many individuals to be taking our e-action, which sends a letter to Gordon Brown urging him to lead the fight against AIDS by contributing £700m over the next 3 years.
