Spring General Assembly 2007 - what happened?

Written by Joel Burton, about 1 year ago | Permalink | Branch: Imperial

This year's SGA has just finished, hosted by Medsin Imperial, where all who attended had a great weekend of mass debating, training, networking, elections and of course, socialising!

Here's a quick summary of what happened this weekend, there'll be more information, and minutes of the meeting, coming soon.

There were updates on the network (branches, projects, campaigns, alumni, externals) and reports from the recent international and European meetings. There were also minimeetings covering topics ranging from improving Medsin GAs to the role of our patrons. The usual Activities Board and Branch Presidents meetings also took place, with many productive outcomes, as well as some fantastic training sessions run by Medsin's 12 new trainers.

Some of the things that were decided this weekend:

  • Medsin-LSHTM and Medsin-Sheffield are now Medsin branches

  • Universities Allied to Essential Medicines (UAEM), International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons, Save Our NHS, Arms Trade and Global Health Systems adopted as campaigns of Medsin

  • Next year's priority campaigns will be Arms Trade, Healthy Planet, Save our NHS and UAEM

The next national committee were voted in - congratulations to the following who were elected for 2007-08:

  • PRESIDENT – Gemma Owens (QUB)
  • VP BRANCHES – Helen Preston (Manchester)
  • VP EXTERNALS – Selina Rodrigues (Newcastle)
  • VP PROJECTS – Emily Finnigan (Birmingham)
  • SECRETARY - Gemma Cubbin (HYMS)
  • TREASURER - Rafi Rogans-Watson (BSMS)
  • CAMPAIGNS DIRECTORS - Pete Baker and Jenny Jones (Manchester)
  • COMMUNICATION AND TECHNOLOGY DIRECTOR - Matt Brandwood (Newcastle)
  • PUBLICITY DIRECTOR - James Chan (Leeds)
  • TRAINING DIRECTOR - position vacant

Lost property - there are a number of items that were not claimed at the end of the SGA, including but not limited to a sleeping bag and a grey coat. If you think that you have lost something at the SGA then contact Joel and he will try and reunite you with your belongings.
