Medsin has two General Assemblies each year - one in the Autumn and one in the Spring. In addition, there are usually short voting sessions at the National Conference and Global Health Conference.

Motion 5 - Medsin's Global Health Magazine and The Lancet
This GA acknowledges the current situation regarding Reed-Elsevier and their continued support of the Arms trade. However, we also note the Lancet's stance on the issue and the often public statements by their editor Richard Horton. As such, we will continue to pursue an arrangement with the Lancet over a Global Health magazine and online forum. If at any stage the Lancet's position on this issue changes then we will re-evaluate this agreement immediately.

Motion 6 - ukAM07 Requesting money from The Lancet
ukAM is a Medsin project. A 'memorandum of understanding' was passed at SGA 2006 which says that ukAM should "not accept funding or enter into any agreement with organisations whose business or agendas conflict with the broad principles of Medsin". ukAM would like to approach the Lancet journal as a potential funder. Medsin enjoys a good relationship with The Lancet, indeed its editor is a Patron of the organisation. Recently there has been a certain amount of controversy surrounding The Lancet's publisher, Elsevier. They run arms fairs selling weapons which parts of the Medsin network may not approve of. The Lancet's view is very clear - it is against Elsevier running these fairs, and has made its position known via a series of editorials and articles.
After discussion with ukAM they have agreed not to approach Elsevier for sponsorship and not to allow Elsevier's details to be present at the conference in any way.
The Medsin Network agrees that ukAM2007 can request sponsorship from the Lancet, as long as any publicity materials do not carry the Elsevier name or logo.
