
Medact
Medact is a global health charity tackling issues at the centre of international policy debates. Led by its health professional membership it undertakes education, research and advocacy on the health implications of conflict, development and environmental change, with a special focus on the developing world. Medsin has a strong relationship with Medact collaborating with Medact on a number of campaigns and the Medsin President is invited to attend regular Medact Executive Board meetings.
Medact's work is largely divided into 4 main areas:
- Nuclear War and Conflict
- Environmental Issues
- Refugees
- Health and Development
Medsin collaborates with Medact members on the above issues.
Current Collaboration
GHAP has been collaborating with Moyra Rushby at Medact, on the Defend Primary Healthcare campaign.
Healthy Planet has been working with Medact members such as Robin Stott on environment and health issues.
Medsin is working with Medact and others to help plan the launch of the 'Global Health Watch 2' in June 2008.
Medsin students at Newcastle have been collaborating with local Medact members to raise awareness of Iraqi refugees living in Syria and Jordan.
Medsin students have been campaigning with Medact members on issues relating to nuclear weapons through ICAN and IPPNW (Medact is the UK affiliate of these international campaigns).
