The British Medical Association (BMA)
What is the BMA?

The BMA is the doctors' professional organisation established to look after the personal and professional needs of their members. It is also an independent trade union dedicated to protecting individual members and the collective interests of doctors and medical students.
As an organisation of Medsin students in the UK Medsin has a very good relationship with the BMA. Medsin has official links with two departments within the BMA:
- The International Committee and
- The Medical Students Committee (MSC)
The International Committee discusses European and International issues of interest to the medical profession. Currently, the Medsin President sits on this committee as a co-opted member. In addition, the International Committee provides lots of support and resources to our conferences and activities. To find out more about the work of the International Committee, click here.
Medical Students Committee (MSC) of the BMA is the national forum for debate for medical student members of the BMA. It represents the views of BMA medical student members and encourages co-operation between student members and the medical profession. The MSC is formed of representatives from each medical school in the UK as well as the chairs of devolved nations, the chair of the Medical Students Conference and the chair of the Regional Services Liason Group. The Medsin President is a permanently co-opted member of this committee, and the MSC chair sits on the Medsin Activities Board.
How does the MSC work?
Motions passed at the MSC conference set the priorities for Ian Noble, MSC Chair and the rest of the MSC for the year to come
Some of these motions can be taken to the BIG BMA conference (called Annual Representative Meeting), to be presented to the all branch of practice members of the BMA
This gives the Medsin Network a chance to get what Medsin believes in to the agenda of the most powerful doctors' organisation in the country.
