This event has been and gone.

The 2007 UAEM conference will be held Friday, Sept. 28 - Sunday, Sept. 30 at Harvard University in Cambridge, MA, USA. Join students from across the US, UK and Canada in calling for universities to play a more active role in improving access to medicines in poor countries.

A limited amount of funding is available to help with travel expenses; accommodation with a student host will be provided if necessary.

A draft agenda can be found here. As with previous years, this year's conference will include a range of topic trainings, chapter strategy sessions and advocacy workshops. Emphasis will be placed on facilitating best-practice sharing between chapters of varying experience levels and parallel teaching tracks have been created to benefit both new and veteran UAEMers alike. This year, we will be also holding a chapter fair as part of our conference activities. Chapter representatives should plan to prepare and bring a poster board summarising their chapter activities (to date or planned) and covering important school-specific information including mission statements, special areas of research, and promising drugs in the pipeline.

To attend the conference, please reply as soon as possible, indicating if you would like to receive any travel assistance. Limited amount of funding is available to help defray travel costs. In past years, we have subsidised up to 75% of travel expenses (for the most economical mode of travel) for up to two members from each chapter. Since travel funding is limited, everyone is strongly encouraged to find funding from his/her university in order to maximise the number of conference attendees we can support. We have prepared a funding proposal to help you with this process. In your email, please indicate if you would like to receive this as well.

Following your expression of interest, you will receive an email notification regarding the registration process and the amount UAEM will be able to reimburse you for travel.

The Harvard chapter is working hard to find student hosts for all participants, but please feel free to explore alternative options for accommodations.

We hope to see many of you in Boston!

Take care, Mori Mansouri

Our Labs. Our Drugs. Our Responsibility.

About UAEM UAEM is a coalition of over 35 student chapters across UK, US, and Canada dedicated to using university action to ameliorate the access crisis. We have a two-fold mission:

(1) to determine how universities can help ensure that biomedical end products, such as drugs, are made more accessible in poor countries and

(2) to increase the amount of research conducted on neglected diseases, or those diseases predominantly affecting people who are too poor to constitute a market attractive to private-sector R&D investment. Click here for more information

"For too long, life-saving medical tools that are the fruits of university-led discovery have been denied to poor people in poor countries. If our universities really are to be institutions for the public good, this must change." - Dr. Paul Farmer, Co-founder of Partners in Health
