Northern Ireland Regional Conference
Medsin members from Queen's University, Belfast met on Saturday 24th February for the first ever Northern Ireland Regional Conference.
The theme of the conference was '''Conflict, Migration and Human Rights'''.
There were three plenaries each with two speakers.
Plenary One: Human Rights
- An Introduction To Human Rights - Professor Colin Harvey, Human Rights Centre, Postgraduate School of Law, Queen's University Belfast
- Health as a Human Right - Virginia McVea, NI Human Rights Commission
Plenary Two: Health Worker Migration
- Effects of Migration on Health Worker Migrants - Daniel Holden, Animate - a strategic migrant worker equality project
- Health Worker Migration; a personal experience - Dr Siva Subramanium, Department of Surgery, Queen's University Belfast, Royal Victoria Hospital
Plenary Three: Conflict
- 'Human Rights' in the "War on Terror" - Ciárnan Helferty, Head of the UK Student Section of Amnesty International
- Human Rights Difficulties for Palestinians - Orna Kohn, Staff Atorney, Adalah: The Legal Centre for Arab Minority Rights in Israel
In the afternoon there were also workshops on topics such as Campaigning with Oxfam and Gender Equality run by the Irish NGO Trocáire. The Gender Equality powerpoint is available on this page as are some of the powerpoints from the plenary speakers.
The powerpoints are the intellectual property of their authors and hence must be referenced if they are used in any capacity in the future.
