Evaluation from the AGA in Manchester
Thanks for taking the time to fill in the application forms – generally the feedback from the weekend was really good. There are however some things which we’ve learnt and which we can change for the SGA.
Please keep reading to find out what you thought and how we’re going to improve what we do and what we’re going to continue to do!
You Thought…
Content:
- There were enough but not too many presentations
- That the presentations didn’t keep to time
- That the information given to you in the presentations was useful
- That we don’t really need to invite more externals to the GA
- That there was lots of different training to choose from
- That the training was well organised and the trainers were well prepared
- That the voting sessions ran well
- That the voting sessions were informative
- That the mini meetings allowed discussions on Medsin’s Future
- That there was enough mini meetings and training sessions.
Other thoughts on content:
- We should focus the GA’s on policy – and spend the whole time discussing and debating this policy.
- Too much voting
- Its been the best GA so far, the good attitude of the NC made a difference.
What other training sessions you’d like:
- Practical stuff – how to make a website and organise a protest.
- How to write a basic constitution
Information:
- You knew where to go in Manchester
- You knew what was going to happen at the GA
- That if we posted you the GA booklet before the event – you’d read it and know what was going on in the voting sessions.
Other thoughts on information:
- It was sent out really late
- Posting would be a waste – email is good
- Should put info on website and people can read it there
- Someone printed it themselves, well done, thanks.
Socialising:
- That you met lots of people from other branches
- That there were enough well timed breaks
- That the social was great fun
Other comments:
*Generally a fantastic night had by all.
- More lunch especially fruit would have been appreciated
- Start dinner and 8pm and make it more punctual
What did you think there was too much of at the AGA?
- Long presentations
- Long winded voting ( but we need it)
- Admin
- One long voting session – split it in future
- Waiting
- Bylaws
- Bylaw amendments
- Information and updates
- Voting in general
What did you think there was not enough of at the AGA?
- Games and fun stuff like in Leicester
- Time to train
- Debate on policy
- Time for campaigns to get together
- Mini meetings
- Time
- Training
- Food and voting members
What else did you think could have been included at the AGA?
- More opportunity for mini meetings
- More level 3 training
- More talks from project coordinators
- A clown!!
Your other thoughts about the weekend:
- Cut long presentations
- Discussions in groups are good
- Greater representation of projects
- Thanks for organising it
- We started late
- Time limit on motions needed – if not done to time – then its unfortunate – need to prioritise like the BMA.
- Great GA
- More training, more realising timing for voting please, better scheduling
- Enjoyable and made to feel welcome throughout the event.
What we’re going to do next time…
- Make sure that the Chairs keep the presentations restricted to their time limit.
- Try to timetable the voting session between the two days and also increase the time available for motions which require discussion
- Email people the booklet with all the motions in – not just have it available on the website – we will discuss further the idea of posting the booklet out to voting members in advance.
- Use the website even more as a tool of communicating with you.
- Include lots of training and mini meetings
- Encourage people to let the secretary know if they’re going to submit an amendment or procedural motion – just to make things quicker.
- Bal and Pete will encourage increased representation of projects and campaigns
- Bal and Pete will also encourage them to present.
- Sunil will encourage increased representation of branches.
- We’ll make sure there’s time for the AB to meet
- We’ll try to develop the range of training that we offer.
- We’ll try to make the information about he GA available to you as soon as possible.
- We’ll see if there’s any policy we can debate too!
Thanks everyone for you input – we’ll really use it to try to improve the SGA and hand over to the next national committee!
