In 2008-2009 Medsin Southampton concentrated on Global Health Education by organising a monthly series of talks with speakers from the university, Southampton General Hospital and beyond.

The first of these was Dr Mike Roe, Consultant Paediatrician from SGH, with an “Introduction to Global Health”. In January Prof Alan Fenwick, Professor of Tropical Parasitology at Imperial College London and Director of the Schistosomiasis Control Initiative spoke on “Global Health Partnerships for Neglected Tropical Diseases in Africa”. We have also had talks on access to clean water and sanitation, and issues surrounding nuclear weapons.

We also run student-led seminars/discussions and have covered issues such as HIV/AIDS, refugees, poverty and how politics affects healthcare.
