National Committee 2009-10
Check out what we're all up to on the new blog here
President - Jonny Currie
Hi! I'm Jonny and this year have the role of President of Medsin-UK. Whilst leading our National Committee and ensuring we support the Medsin network in every way we can, a lot of my work also involves representing Medsin to its many external partners and guiding the network to future success.
I got involved in Medsin because I know students are leaders when it comes to global health and positive change. Having experienced after high school how northern 'development' programmes involving young people can often fail in their efforts to meaningfully tackle rooted inequalities in the global South, I came to university mindful of the wide disparities in the world today, and intent on addressing these in every way I can.
Get in touch with Jonny if you have any questions relating to the National Committee, our organisation in general, if you are an external NGO or organisation, or if you wish to discuss our role within the IFMSA or our external partners.
Vice-President for Branches - Mustafa Abbas

If you are part of a Medsin Branch, or want to be, then I’m your man. My main job is to keep in plenty of contact with all the Medsin Branches, keep up to date with what’s going on at yours, and be your support whenever you need it. I have loads of Medsin experience so I can help problem solve almost any issue you’ve got, I’m super rapid with emails and always near my phone so I’m always on hand, and, most importantly, you as a Medsin branch member are my number one priority without fail. I’m also the primary contact for your Branch into the world of Medsin National for whenever you want something: setting up a new Branch? Maybe some training? A new project? A passionate campaign? Some global health education? Some snazzy publicity? Something explained? Any else at all??? The fabulous National Committee on this page will have the answers and you can contact them directly, but if you just want one contact to put you in touch with them and help follow your questions and ideas up, then vpbranches@medsin.org is all you need.
Vice-President for Projects - Sarah Phipps

My job involves keeping in touch with all the Medsin Projects, and making sure that they are getting as much as possible out of the Medsin network. There are numerous conferences run by the projects during the year, and I ensure these are promoted to the network. I help co-ordinate the activities board along with Erica (campaigns) to ensure projects and campaigns work together and share ideas. I also support new projects in becoming part of the Medsin network. Additionally, I work with Jonny and the other Vice-Presidents to ensure the smooth running of Medsin and the National Committee. If you're part of a Medsin Project and want some more information; if you want your project to become part of the Medsin network or if you need some help in setting up a project, then don't hesitate to get in contact with me!

Communications and Technology Director - Jonny Grek
Hello! I'm the webmaster for the National Committee 09/10. My role is twofold. The main part of my job is to be responsible for the website: I am the first point of call for website and email enquiries. Furthermore, I'm looking to boost Medsin's web presence, and make Medsin.org a valuable resource for the network. Along with this, I'm working to improve communications within the Medsin National Committee, making sure that they are working most effectively for the Network, whether that be with good emailing, wikis or blogs. Get in touch with Jonny if you have any questions about communication and technology within Medsin.
Publicity Director - Marie-Clair Murphy

Hi, I'm Marie Clair and as Publicity Director my role is to help you publicise Medsin to the max! 2009-2010 promises to be a busy year for all aspects of the Medsin community and I hope to be able to help in any way that I can to ensure that all your hard work and effort receives the attention it deserves. As part of this years team I shall do whatever I can to develop Medsin's appearance and enhance its exposure. Whether its poster design, logos. Medsin merchandise or anything publicity related please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Campaigns Director - Erica Pool

My main responsibility is to work with the coordinators of each campaign, supporting them and helping them to work as a team. I also coordinate the Campaigns Community; the hub of advocacy and activism within the Medsin network, and the Campaigns Team; who provide the support and behind the scenes work which makes our campaigning possible. I also work to promote campaigning in the network, and help conferences to take actions on the issues they raise. I'm always available to help anyone who wants set up a campaign within the Medsin network. I work closely with Sarah to coordinate the Activities Board to facilitate communication between all of Medsin's Projects and Campaigns. Get in touch with Erica about campaigns.
Training Director - Al-Tahoor Butt

I’m Al, and I’m the Training Director for this year (a fact that might be slightly obvious considering the above heading…). Training is designed to support the entire network, whether it’s Branch, Campaign, or Project; providing Medsin members with the essential skills they need to expand and improve their current activities.
Part of my role is developing the Training Network, recruiting new Trainers, keeping in touch with old ones, and facilitating the sharing of good resources across the Training Nework. To recruit new Trainers, it is my job to run a three day course called “Training New Trainers”, where people can learn to be the person doing the Training! They will then be part of the Medsin Trainers team who are eligible to provide workshops at the Autumn and Spring Weekends, the National Conference, and the Global Health Conference. In addition to these venues, we’ll also be looking to provide Training at Project, Campaign, and Branch meetings. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions or queries you might have.
